Since the inception of Capital One's flagship travel card the Venture X, American Express and Chase have been put on notice. There is some heavy competition and it is here to stay. With a $300 travel credit every year, 10k points every card anniversary, and lounge access, American Express and Chase should be worried.
Points
The points category for the Venture X is plain and simple. You earn 2x the points per dollar spent. There, that's it. Simple.
It is a great catch all card which I personally use in place of the chase freedom unlimited. Is it a Chase sin to not use the chase trifecta? Maybe, maybe not.
Rewards
The card comes with a $395 annual fee which is offset with a $300 annual travel credit and a 10k points reward every card anniversary putting you $5 in the green if you use the points and travel credit.
If you are looking for a card that gives lounge access then this is the one. It come with a priority pass select membership which grants you and 2-guests unlimited entry to any priority pass lounge. While it used to offer dinning credit at restaurants as well, that has unfortunately been scrapped by Capital One. The other lounge access you get with the card is Capital One's very own lounges. These seem to be slowly rolling out across the US. We aren't sure how many there will be in the future, but for now they are at DFW, and DCA. A lounge at DEN is coming soon in 2023. While we haven't been to one yet, they look pretty nice and spacious online. One even has a bike room to workout.
Transfer Partners
Capital one has some great transfer partners. All are transferred a 1:1 rate except for Eva Air where 1k Capital one points = 750 Eva Air Miles.

While you can transfer to transfer partners, and we totally recommend that you do, Capital One also lets you reimburse travel purchases for a statement credit as well for 1 cent per point. While we don't really do this, it's nice to have incase there's something you'd like to pay for with points and you can't really use a travel partner for it or it wouldn't make sense to use a travel partner.
Summary
Overall, we can't recommend the Venture X from Capital One enough. While it doesn't have the portal redemption rate like Chase, it's still a very great catch all card with the 2x points for everything. It offers great transfer partners and gives you lounge access without paying an arm and a leg for a more expensive card. I am a current card holder and fully expect to renew year after year.
